What is the JROTC Enhanced Cadet Contest?

The Florida Society recognizes outstanding JROTC cadets to promote the principle of the “citizen-soldier,” exemplified by the Minutemen of the Revolutionary War. This honor is presented to cadets who demonstrate exceptional leadership, military bearing, and overall excellence. Recipients are selected by the JROTC unit’s Commanding Officer, who is given full discretion in making the selection.

Recipients of the Army, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Space Force programs receive the Enhanced JROTC Medals. Recipients of the U.S. Navy Sea Cadet Corps receive SAR Sea Cadet Medals, also known as the Bronze Good Citizenship Medal with Ribbon Bar.

Cash prizes are awarded at the local, state, and national levels.

Who can participate?
  • Cadets actively enrolled in secondary school JROTC programs.*
  • Typically, a third-year cadet in a four-year program or a second-year cadet in a three-year program (a junior).
  • One nominee for units with fewer than 500 cadets, or one cadet for every 500 students in larger units, per year.   In schools with more than one unit, each unit may nominate cadets accordingly.
