What is the Elementary School Poster Contest?

The Elementary School Poster Contest is an opportunity for elementary school students to research a topic relating to the American Revolutionary War period (1750-1800) and design a poster board to creatively display what they learn.

Cash prizes are awarded at the local, state, and national levels!

Who can participate?

The Florida Society Sons of the American Revolution invites all students in grades 3-5 to participate in its annual Americanism Elementary School Poster Contest. This free educational program is open to all elementary-aged boys and girls in public, charter, private, online, and home school settings. Students involved in youth organizations – such as Scouts, 4-H, or Children of the American Revolution – are also encouraged to participate.

What are the requirements?

Participants learn about the history of the American Revolutionary War and design a traditional flexible poster board (22 inches x 28 inches) or a foamed backed poster board (20 inches x 30 inches) that creatively illustrates what they have learned!

  • Does the poster express the annual theme?
  • Does the poster show originality by the student?
  • Does the poster show evidence of research?
  • Does the poster show artistic merit and creativity?
  • Does the poster accurately reflect the historical event?
  • Is the poster neat and visually pleasing?

How do I enter?

All posters must be submitted to the local chapter for judging.

Please note that local application deadlines may vary, so interested students should contact their local chapter for specific submission dates and details.

Complete contest rules, guidelines, and the application form are available at contest's website.

What Can I Win?

Top entries earn cash prizes at the local, state, and national levels! Each local chapter sets its own prize amounts, and chapter winners advance to the state competition.

State-Level Prizes:

  • 1st Place: $200 cash
  • 2nd Place: $100 cash
  • 3rd Place: $50 cash

The state winner will advance to the national competition, where prize amounts are determined and awarded by the National Society.
