Contests & Awards

Youth Education Contests

The society sponsors several annual Awards & Medals programs to involve students and educators in the history of the American Revolutionary period. These awards encourage civic responsibility and duty, creative and effective teaching practices for the classroom, and a deeper understanding of the complicated issues surrounding the war for American independence. All of our contests begin at one's local chapter and move along toward the state and national levels during each annual competition, wrapping up at the annual congress of the National Society. Cash prizes are awarded at each level of the competitions.

Poster Contest

For students in grades 3-5, create a poster on “revolutionary war events” in even-numbered  years, or on “revolutionary war persons” in odd-numbered  years.

Video Contest

For students in grades 6–12, create a video highlighting a person, battle, battle or document from the struggle for American independence.

Brochure Contest

For students in grades 6-8, create a tri-fold brochure on the topic of one of nine foundational documents of the United States.

Essay Contest

For students in grades 9-12, write an original essay examining an event, person, philosophy, or ideal of the American Revolution.

For students in grades 9–12, prepare and present a speech highlighting patriotism, courage, hardship, and achievement in the struggle for American independence.

For Eagles, write an original essay examining a significant event, person, or ideal of the American Revolution accompanied with a four-generation genealogy chart.

For cadets in grade 11, write an essay on the principles of the “citizen-soldier” modeled on the Minutemen of the American Revolution.

Public Service Recognition

The society proudly recognize the dedication and service of those who exemplify the values our forefathers fought to uphold — commitment, courage, and community leadership. Today, we honor the exceptional teachers who inspire the next generation with a love of country and history, the public servants who uphold integrity and justice in our communities, and the emergency medical professionals who respond with bravery and compassion in times of need. Their contributions reflect the spirit of patriotism and civic responsibility that continues to define our great nation.
